Citizens affordable private school - Part Two

10th Grade students
At the high school, a colleague and I were invited to observe a class of 10th grade students. The teacher told us she taught Hindi, but we decided to stay anyway. Then she smiled and asked us if we wanted to say something. I'm  afraid we totally disrupted the class...in a good way. We talked about where we were from, and got the students talking about their interests, about music, and about their future plans. I danced for them briefly, then Cindy and I sang the first part of "Hey Jude"...they sang "Jana Mana Gana", their national anthem, and we sang "The Star-Spangled Banner." Their teacher was able to take some time off.
We asked them about plans for the future, and each student had some definite career options, from doctors to fashion designers to engineers. They were very polite, and also curious about us and life in America.

The courtyard of the high school. Students are studying, waiting to use the computer lab.

During our debriefing with Mr. Khan, there was a call to prayer from a nearby mosque. Everyone stopped talking and listened to the peaceful, melodic song.

Some school boys we met on the street, near the high school we were visting. Boys...the same the world over!

This is a picture from the neighborhood, typical of where the students live.

This little girl insisted on getting her picture taken too!
